Introduction to Theatre

Prerequisites: None

This course presents basic theater terminology, stage orientation, and techniques of acting. The primary focus is on becoming comfortable on stage as we create and perform, using a variety of acting assignments. The class explores script and character analysis, acting as reacting, drama critique, and fundamentals of improvisation. The culmination of the class is a monologue presentation. Students will explore all aspects of the Ridgeview Theatres, and be familiar with their use and operation.

 

Theatre 2

Prerequisites: Introduction to Theatre 1

This course continues training started in the Intro. to Theatre 1 Class, with even more emphasis on the techniques of acting – believability, voice projection, diction, body language, reaction and improvisation. This class will also be involved in all aspects of the theatre productions, using class time to work hands-on with technical play production. An evening performance of scenes, presented in the Black Box Theater, will be the final project for this class.

 

Advanced Theatre and Stagecraft

Prerequisites: Introduction to Theatre 1 or teacher approval

This course allows students of acting to hone their skills in a
class where everyone already has a working knowledge of the
theater. Each student will be responsible for a part of the current
production’s behind-the-scenes aspects, including building sets,
positioning lights, working the stage for school and community
events, and helping in all aspects of play production. They
will also be a part of the Ridgeview Thespian troupe, and
work toward a production of one act plays to do at school and
competitions.
