Spanish 1

This course teaches the fundamentals of listening, speaking, reading and writing in the Spanish and English languages. Spanish culture, history, and geography is also studied. The Latin-American form of Spanish is emphasized.

 

Spanish 2

This course expands the skills of Spanish 1, increasing the emphasis on conversation, vocabulary building, and writing. The study of Spanish culture, history, and geography is continued. Communication in past and future time frames will be introduced.

 

Spanish 3

The skills developed in Spanish 1 and 2 are applied to increasing conversational ability. A review and development of grammar is continued. Spanish culture, history, and geography are re-explored in a variety of ways. Communication in past, present and future time frames will be continued as well as introducing expressing hopes, desires and doubts.

 

Advanced Spanish and Spanish for Native Speakers

Prerequisites: Spanish 3B

This classed is designed for students who are native Spanish speakers and for students who have taken Spanish 1,2 and 3.  In this course, students will continue to learn new grammar and verbs, but will also learn more about Spanish speaking countries and their culture and history. Through projects and literature, students will strengthen their speaking and writing skills in Spanish.   This class is perfect for the student who wants to continue to learn and grow as a Spanish speaker and writer.

American Sign Language 1-ASL 1

This course introduces students to American Sign Language. This course will focus on basic vocabulary, structure, and grammar. Course topics may include the culture of and issues facing deaf people.

American Sign Language 2-ASL 2

Prerequisites: ASL 1

ASL 2 expands on vocabulary, grammatical knowledge, and cultural awareness. Increasingly complex grammatical aspects will be introduced. Students will also further develop the conversational/cultural behaviors necessary to hold a beginning-level conversation.

American Sign Language 3-ASL 3

 ASL 3 focuses on enhancing communication skills developed in ASL 2. Students will be expected to sign about various topics at length and understand signs in context when watching Deaf signers.

American Sign Language 4-ASL 4

Prerequisites: ASL 3

ASL IV courses focus on advancing students’ skills and abilities to sign and understand the language so that they can maintain simple conversations with sufficient vocabulary and in an acceptable pace and have sufficient comprehension skills to understand the language when signed at a normal pace.

Japanese I

Japanese 1 will focus on learning Hiragana, and some Kanji characters. The study of Japanese culture will be a focus as we look at life in Japan, anime and Japanese films. Building vocabulary and basic communication skills in reading, writing speaking and listening will be stressed.
